About & history

Local artisans and cottage industries in Thailand produced decorative wall art pieces like this for the international export souvenir market. These items were widely manufactured during the later decades of the twentieth century to meet a growing demand for culturally inspired home decor. They were crafted by casting resin or metal alloy components, applying a metallic finish, and mounting them by hand inside custom wooden shadow boxes.

Interior decorators and homeowners used these framed pieces to adorn living rooms, hallways, and offices with an exotic ethnic aesthetic. They were typically hung on walls as accent art, often arranged in pairs or small groupings with other similar decorative items. Over time, changing interior design trends caused the popularity of such mass-produced souvenirs to decline.
